Storytime

Sonoma County Library offers early literacy classes and storytimes for children up to 6 years old. Storytimes are designed to introduce kids to the joy of words and language, developing pre-literacy and school-readiness skills. Talk, sing, read, write, and play with your child and watch language skills blossom and grow!

Can’t make it to a class? Recorded storytimes are available anytime through the library’s YouTube channel or Dial-a-Story service.

Delight and stimulate your baby’s senses with bouncing rhymes, songs, fingerplays, and simple books. Babytime classes are for kids 0-18 months and their caregivers. Storytime usually lasts 20 minutes, followed by playtime, where parents and children socialize and interact.

Wee Read Baby-Toddler Storytime

Join us for stories, songs, movement, and fun! Wee Read is a language-rich educational program for kids ages 0-36 months and their caregivers. Children’s librarians use fun, engaging techniques and activities for babies and toddlers to exercise important motor skills and practice using their vocabulary.

Toddler Time

It’s time to wiggle! Join us for songs, rhymes, fingerplays, and simple stories for kids ages 18–36 months and their caregivers. Toddler Time features opportunities for participation and movement to suit a wide range of attention spans and skills. Storytime usually lasts 25-30 minutes, followed by playtime, where parents and children socialize and interact.

Preschool Storytime

Listen and learn with stories, songs, movement, and fun, nurturing a love of books in your preschooler. Preschool Storytime classes are for children ages 3-6 years and often end with a craft or activity that allows children to practice kindergarten-readiness skills. Storytime usually lasts 30 minutes, followed by playtime, where parents and children socialize and interact.

Family Storytime

Family storytimes can encompass a wide range of ages—you might have a baby, a wobbler, and a 6-year-old all in the same group. Librarians will evaluate the children’s ages to direct activities and stories, sharing skills that parents can continue with their kids long after storytime is over.

Bilingual Storytime

Explore books, songs, rhymes, and play in English and Spanish! Bilingual storytime classes are for kids ages 0-5 and are usually Family Storytimes (unless noted differently on the events calendar). Librarians who are fluent or comfortable in Spanish offer these classes to reflect and support the diversity of our communities.
